When breath ceases
All comes to a standstill
The lip, tongue, mouth
Man becomes motionless
His pride and glory come
To an end.
When breath ceases
All we have becomes
Useless, rejected, unwanted
Rags they become
Fit for scrubbing the floor
Truly we brought nothing
And surely takes nothing away
When breath ceases
Blessed are those who
Knew and valued friendship
So pursued and kept it
They shall be surrounded
By loved ones
When breath ceases
Dust we are and to
Dust we return
May the Earth receive
Our bodies and
Rest gently on Us
