Was Jesus A Celebrity?
Isaiah 53
KJV
2+ For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
This is the second time I am addressing this very subject. Followers of my write-ups will recall I’ve discussed this subject before, many years ago! I am back again because many have asked to know if Jesus was a type, a celebrity etc!
In an age and time when men of God desire to be known, treated and revered as “ celebrities” the same can not be said of the Man whose servants they proclaim to be.
Indeed, Jesus did not leave us with a photograph or portrait but the descriptions the Holy Spirit gave us are enough to help us know what He looked like. One such passage that describes Him is what you’ve read above.
Read it again ;
Isaiah 53:2
NIV
[2] He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
In case you are having difficulty identifying his description here is it,
“He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.”
That he wasn’t a handsome man wielding any majestic influence etc is highlighted by the above scriptures! He borrowed a donkey to ride into Jerusalem, today we ask for a 4x4; or an aircraft to fly us
He had no wardrobe, we have innumerable, assorted specially made attire to fit etc
He walked without bodyguards, today we are surrounded by bodyguards! A public display to enhance our superiority. He sat on a donkey with no one holding its rein, today we are chauffeur-driven, on some occasions with police escorts
Even when we arrive at venues we wait for some time before stepping out, and we have the doors open for us by bodyguards. Yes. Red carpets are strewn in our paths for us to walk on!
He sat and ate with the ordinary a practice we see as unfit and belittling; an anathema! He fraternize, socialized with the lowly an act we abhor. He avoided the limelight we invite and adore it. The tv cameras must be on us!
Jesus was not a celebrity, He lived a simple lifestyle! I can hear some say, yes that’s true but times have changed! This is not true, he lived in a sophisticated and advanced culture and civilisation but none of these influenced him!
Today’s men of God must return to the basics. Peter said he left us examples to follow not only the spiritual but also the social.
1 Peter 2
KJV
21+ For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
