Vexation! What Is It?
Ecclesiastes 4
KJV
4+ Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit.
Obî nî mòdèñ à òbó èyè obî ahîarà kwà”! Yes, that is what you’ve just read in twi! Solomon saw and experienced it firsthand hence he wrote in his diary what you’ve just read!
Read it again ;
Ecclesiastes 4:4 NIV
[4] And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person's envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
It is all about the endowments of God! That He has endowed everyone is a fact and so also is the fact that He has endowed some more than others. When it comes to “ endowments” all men are not equal before God because they are not assigned the same missions /tasks.
The only sense in which all men are equal before God is in the context of our discussion is the fact that each has received something ! At least each has received something from God, but not in the same measure or degree.
Ordinarily, this is not a problem nor should it be! It becomes one when the less endowed rise up against the highly endowed that is when what transpires is described as a “ vexation” of the spirit.
Vexation of spirit simply means the feeling of “spiritual” and “emotional “ discomfort, the feeling of uncomfortableness “.; This is what the few highly endowed go through in life!
Beloved, if only we would accept that in terms of gifts, it is God who gives in accordance with His mission/tasks. That All are not on the same level, some had five, others had two, and some had one- no one was without a gift, there will be no vexation of spirit.
There are “front-stage” and “backstage” gifts yet the same God gives them to whomsoever He desires. Just as each will give account for what he received, even so shall we all render account to the Giver.
Till then may each stay in his lane, and mind his own business! Here is how we can avoid vexing each other’s spirits!
