To Wait
Habakkuk 2:3
NIV
[3] For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
“Wait” is a command that puts us in an anxious mode, because we don’t know when or how long we are to wait. The longer it takes the more anxious we become, and like the patriarch Abraham we begin to think otherwise.
The same was with Saul who could not wait for Samuel to come and perform the rites that are solely the duties of a priest. Both situations resulted in unpleasant consequences!
Admittedly, as humans, it is difficult to wait for a promise to be honoured. In life, I have by experience learnt that the word “wait” goes hand in hand with “patience” Without patience, one can not wait.
To be patient in practical terms is simply to write down a promise, file it, and move on occasionally picking it up to look at it. Just to remind oneself!
To be preoccupied with it can and does in most cases, lead to anxiety and frustration. A development which is not good for mental health!
We have the promise that Jesus will come again, but as to when we don’t know so while waiting should we sit and look into the skies every day, while there is work to do? Certainly not.
Occupy till I come was His command , this we have to obey.
Luke 19
KJV
13+ And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
So anytime someone tells you to wait, keep it in mind but move on; be occupied whenever he/she is ready he/she will honour his/her promise. Do not get preoccupied, anxious etc with the promise thus leaving other things undone.
To wait requires patience so cultivate and nurture patience which is the antidote to worry and anxiety should a promise be delayed.
A lesson I learnt and would like to share with you.
