They Told Us Just, That We Didn’t Listen!
Romans 15
KJV
4+ For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Romans 4
KJV
23+ Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
1 Corinthians 10
KJV
11+ Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
I don’t know of you, after many years of reading, studying and observing I came to the conclusion that indeed “ they told us! “
The Ancients, our forerunners or forbears etc told us what we should expect or anticipate in life, any serious student of life will admit that all they said is true.
I know some successful men when interviewed, attributed their success to one source – they listened and took the advice of their wise parents and or the elderly they were privileged to come across.
I also know of some who admitted that their failure to attain greater heights was a result of not listening to the distilled wisdom of the elderly.
Yes, these tell us either orally or through written autobiographies /biographies what life is all about and how they overcame challenges!
Not today. Today most think “reinventing the spinning wheel” is a duty and will make them popular and famous! So they have no desire to listen to the elderly.
Exuberance is the word used to describe such ignorant persons! Sad and unfortunately, they outnumber the wise! No wonder many are groping in darkness!
Did Solomon not say there is nothing new under the Sun? So what makes you think there is?
Ecclesiastes 1
KJV
9+ The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 3
KJV
15+ That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
Take a closer look at the word “ discover “ it is made up of two words “dis and cover” to “ uncover “what has been “ covered “
History teaches that Christopher Columbus “discovered “ America! Mungo Park “ discovered the River Niger! Does it mean that before they got there these were not in existence? They were, they only made known to a bigger audience what was already there.
To “ invent “ is not the same as to “ discover !”
Growing up, before I read it from books, I was told “Anyone who serves a great man, is preparing himself for future greatness !” This I later found to be true in life.
So what is the point? Give heed to what a wise elderly person tells you. They will enrich your life and make you stand tall among your contemporaries.
Yes, they told us! And they are still telling us but who is listening?
A word to the wise
