The Low Side Of Man: The Case Of Paul
(Part 2)
Acts 9
KJV
23 And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him:
24+ But their laying await was known to Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.
25+ Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket.
2 Corinthians 11
KJV
33+ And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands.
Read again the above incident involving the apostle Paul, how he escaped death!
Picture the whole incident in your mind, the great and fearless Apostle. The whole “ kanewu” Apostle agreeing to be put into a basket, covered, carried and lowered through a window opening in a wall. No this is too much!
Growing up I had friends who teased me because I am an Ewe! They say we Ewes are taken through windows during our outdooring ceremony hence our skill in ( complete by naming the crime associated with us!) l didn’t say anything please. It’s you.
Tôfî mà tofî is how they teased me at school.
Now I know that the Ewe is not alone in this window crossing ceremony, Paul was also one. I think he was an Ewe! Perhaps you may have heard this before that the Ewe trace their genealogy to Israel!
In fact, their names confirm this claim. For example, my name is Kafui “ praise “ if I were in Judea I’d be called Judah “ praise “!
Anyway, what we read about Paul is not different from that of David both were driven by fear of death. So they had to act in ways unthinkable. Remember they broke no law! They were just tactical and wise!
What do we learn, know when to act in a way as to save yourself. Don’t play God or be a hero. Some highly placed political actors are known to have dressed simply , and taken a trotro to escape unlawful arrest.
A thought to share: Every man has his low point. Know this and apply it when it becomes necessary. Just keep in mind that your act must not contradict any law, for where there is no law there is no sin!
There is no law forbidding Paul to be lowered in a basket through a Wall! Always think about alternatives and don’t be shy to act.
