The Exchange Rate

26+ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Many years ago I wrote an article titled “ When the price is right!” which is similar to this subject; the exchange rate!
In layman’s terms or definition, an exchange rate is the rate at which both sellers and buyers settle to give and take a product ! Though this is a simplistic definition I intend to use this to make my point.
A ball of kenkey is sold at Ghc 5:00 this is the agreed price both the seller and buyer settled on! So the exchange rate for a ball of kenkey is ghc 5:00 If the rate is not good to either of them no transaction takes place ; and each walks away.
The exchange rate therefore drives every activity, and explains why governments keep a keen eye on it and make every effort to maintain its stability. It has been known to be a key factor that maintain or bring government’s down! If in doubt check the history of the rise and fall of governments since independence.
But what has all this got to do with the thought of the day? Well, my intent is to look at the falling moral and spiritual exchange rates! The passage you’ve read suggests that we pay attention to what determines the exchange rate of our lives.
“What will a man give in exchange “ what will you trade your soul for? At what price ( rate) will you offer it ?
That both moral and spiritual exchange rates have been falling for some time now is a fact that we can all attest to.
Let me quickly add that this observation can only be made or understood by readers over a certain age!
Moral Exchange Rates of integrity, honesty, discipline, faithfulness, compassion. Etc have fallen drastically. The rates are so low that nobody upholds let alone respects, those who have them.
To be truthful, honest, call a spade a spade etc makes you look foolish if not stupid; nobody is interested! If you possess these you’ll die from isolation as nobody is interested in you.
Every place you go (including churches) the exchange rates for these virtues are down. The majority have compromised and offered them at a cheap rate.
As a result, moral values are down with the attendant effect being felt by all, in particular the older generation!
Every man has a rate at which he will offer himself! In labour economics ; labour is defined and classified as a “ commodity which is sold and bought at an agreed /negotiated price between the seller and buyer”.
In our case Satan is offering a rate at which he intends to buy our integrity, honesty faithfulness, truthfulness etc; sad to say many have queued at his shop to exchange their birthrights!
A thought to share. Think about these please! The exchange rate!!!
