The Empty Space!
1 Samuel 20
KJV
25+ And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon a seat by the wall: and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul's side, and David's place was empty.
Has there been a time in your life when the absence of someone close to you ever struck you? You looked at the usual place he/she occupies but it was empty!
This was what occurred as per the verse you’ve read. When the king and his cabinet met, all except David were present. His seat was empty!
Initially, Saul took David’s absence for granted as we often do when a person we expect to see doesn’t show up! Read what he thought ;
26 Nevertheless Saul spake not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean.
The scene repeated itself the following day , It disturbed the King hence he asked ;
27 And it came to pass on the morrow, which was the second day of the month, that David's place was empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor to day?
David’s role at such gatherings was missing, as was known of him he was the one who provided music to soothe and make the occasion pleasant. As a result, his absence was felt.
This teaches us a lesson: let’s not underestimate the role, place, and contributions that some make in our lives, no matter how little.
One day we shall turn to look at the place they occupy anytime they attend church service and find it Empty.
One day, we shall be confronted with a challenge that someone holds the key to unlock, but they will not be there.
Just like when the Well gets dry that’s when we appreciate its value , even so will it be with those whose friendship we take for granted
So, cherish and value everyone who makes any contribution great or small to your life. One day his/her place shall be empty. A void will be created in your life.
A sad experience to share!
