The Challenge Of Association
2 Timothy 3
KJV
10+ But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
Of great importance but often overlooked is the issue of whom we associate with! That whosoever we associate with impacts and influences our worldview can not be underestimated!
We find examples in the scriptures where Moses influenced Joshua, Jesus influenced the disciples, and Paul influenced Timothy and others, to name a few.
In the case of Jesus after his death, his disciples Peter and John displayed a character that was akin to his, boldness and defiance; which was traced to the one they associated with; Read it,
Acts 4
KJV
13+ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
I just had a conversation with a young man many know to be outspoken, fearless, courageous and well educated and it was his comments that drew my attention to this subject matter!!!
Indeed, the people we associate with greatly influence our character, and this young man is an example, just as Peter and John’s were.
Throughout my ministry, I’ve seen this commendable trait among a few and would like to recommend it to all aspiring to be leaders etc! .Whatever you want to be in life, first look for a teacher and follow in his footsteps.
As Paul said to the young man Timothy ; “ But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,” do likewise! Study the life, and note the lessons too.
In his final hours read what he said to this young man;
2 Timothy 2
KJV
2+ And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
Beloved, who you learn from is equally important as what you learn, so choose who you associate with wisely. Read these;
Hebrews 13:7
NIV
[7] Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.
Hebrews 13
KJV
7+ Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
(A word to the wise is enough!
A phrase to a fool is meaningless! )
