Son, be wise!

Proverbs 17:25
NIV
A foolish son brings grief to his father and bitterness to the mother who bore him.

In forty-one (41) verses, the Proverbs writer addresses the griefs and joys a son brings to his father. One such verse is what you’ve read.

That a foolish son brings grief to his father is a truth that only fathers can confirm through experience. If you are not a father you’ll only read this but not understand it.

But how can a son become foolish, was he born so? No one is born foolish, or wise these we learn from others ; and also from our own dispositions.

Friends can influence you but if you are yourself and know what you are about in life there is no way their influence will affect you.

A key factor that makes people foolish is laziness, inability to think for oneself. Lack of self-discipline and self-control.

Dependence on others to do things for you when you can do them by yourself. The thinking, feeling, and thought that someone owes you a living.

Laziness truly produces a fool. In case you are in doubt here are areas where foolishness exhibits itself.

Physical laziness, spiritual laziness, intellectual laziness, moral laziness, economic /vocational laziness! Add more!!!

A son with these tendencies brings grief to his father and bitterness ( regret) to his mother.
