Our Common Denominator!
Ecclesiastes 9:2
NIV
[2] All share a common destiny---the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. As it is with the good, so with the sinful; as it is with those who take oaths, so with those who are afraid to take them.
Though we differ in many respects, pursue different ideals and goals in life one thing is common to us all, death.
No matter what are status’ is in life we have one thing in common; death, as was said to Adam our great-grandfather; “ from the dust you were taken and to dust shall thou return “.
This we see every day as we visit the cemetery where coffins containing the mortal remains of people who once lived, ate, laughed, etc with lowered into a pit dug for them and covered with soil and in a split moment vanish from our sight for good!
As has also been said, these take nothing they possessed away; “ we brought nothing into the world and we shall certainly take nothing away “. Nothing In, Nothing Out!
Everything we own here is on a rental basis, they don’t belong to us, even our bodies are rented properties! At the appropriate time when our tenancy runs out the owner takes His properties back.
Everyone entering the world at birth signed a tenancy agreement, interestingly this agreement is not physical but spiritual. It is deposited with the Landlord no copy is given to us.
Admittedly. It is this that makes it very “ uncomfortable “ since no one knows the expiry date in the agreement except the Landlord!
The Omnipotent Landlord we are told is gracious, merciful etc, and can choose to renew, extend etc the expiry dates! One thing is clear, He does not abrogate the contract/tenancy, He allows it to run its full course! Any abrogation is not His but man-initiated. So be careful you don’t initiate any process that will abrogate your tenancy agreement.
Again we the tenants can not Influence Him. He does what He likes to whomsoever He delights in; per whatever plans and purposes He has.
The Landlord on several occasions have told us that we are strangers and pilgrims, we are here on a temporary visitor’s visa! ( We are on a Hajj!)
He said this to let us know how we should conduct ourselves. A pilgrim does not acquire many properties except those that will make his “ short stay” comfortable! Here is where we have the challenge and problems!
No matter what, the fact remains that death is our common denominator, it levels all rich or poor, wise or foolish, as is said “ six feet at last”.
Let us therefore walk humbly and patiently with each other, for soon our tenancy will expire! When, we don’t know this weekend we are seeing many off since their tenancies have expired!
Let us be wise with how we live, we are living on borrowed time so every second matters!
My take.
