Oh Memories: In Defence of Ignorance!
(Part 2)
Amos 5
KJV
13+ Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.
In the previous post, I decried knowledge and affirmed that it is more of a curse than a power as is often portrayed.
Following in the tradition of Solomon I realized that indeed much learning is a weariness of the flesh a fact that many a learned person will not tell you for fear of class rejection!
Read it;
Ecclesiastes 12
KJV
12+ And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
Ecclesiastes 1
KJV
18+ For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
What else can I say, these are words coming from the world’s most accomplished and heralded wise man Hear him again “ he that increaseth knowledge increaseth Sorrow”!
This is coming from a man who by today’s standard would have been awarded the Pulitzer Prize in addition to the Nobel Peace Prize.
Read his output; he had no coequal then, let alone today!
1 Kings 4
KJV
32+ And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.
33 And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes.
Such was his fame that many came from far and near to listen to him; read it
34 And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.
Outwardly, an intellectual would brag and boast but inwardly he knows how tiresome and wearisome the burden he carries for being intelligent!
He stays deep into the night writing, thinking, reading etc pondering over questions and issues of life concerning people! His Family life suffers!
He wished he could turn down the many invitations so he could rest his soul, mind and body but can not because of the temporal pride, happiness and privilege he enjoys! A vanity!
You’ve heard the saying “ uneasy lies the head that wears the crown “Yes, that’s exactly an admission of the vanity of knowledge!
Instead of power it is rather a curse!
While the ignorant sleeps, goes round town drunk and making merry ; the intellectual is awake.
No doubt the scripture ( Solomon) hails the life of the “ labouring man!”
Ecclesiastes 5
KJV
12 The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
Yes, the ignorant sleep soundly! So long as he can get what can buy him kenkey so be it , tomorrow will take care of itself. To him, it is one day at a time!
Beloved, celebrity life is a vanity and a deceptive life. A truth they will but tell you!
Ignorance is bliss!
