Many Rivers To Cross, The Uncertainties Of Life.
John 16
KJV
33+ These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Trials and tribulations we can not rule out that they are inherent and part of life’s architecture! What is assuring is the fact that we are told what to do “ but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”
Thus saith the Captain of our Salvation who himself experienced what we go through today. Yet did not give up
Truly there are many rivers to cross before we reach our final destination! There is the river of failure, of betrayal, of grief, of poverty, of losses, of loneliness etc.
Each day presents us with several challenges and uncertainties! Life, indeed is a battlefield, every joy we experience is only momentary and short-lived. Nothing lasts long.
In the list presented to us as the heroes of the faith in Hebrews, the eleventh chapter one name was missing, Job. ( I believe he is covered by “ time will fail me to mention etc phrase !!
The experiences of Job summarise what it means to face and cross the many rivers. He lost his children, properties, health etc; yet he cheered up and withstood the challenges! He crossed these rivers with distinction.
Many today have crossed similar rivers as they’ve also lost their jobs, families, friends, properties and their peace.
Each day of our lives we stand at the banks of rivers not knowing how deep or shallow, how swift or slow flowing they are and yet we must cross them before the close of the day.
It is these that create in us fears and uncertainties for we know not what each river holds! And here is where the assurances of the Lord come in.
John 14
KJV
27+ Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
To which Paul added;
Philippians 4
KJV
7+ And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
With Isaiah concluding
Isaiah 43
KJV
2+ When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
Which River are you standing by? I stand at the banks of “River Grief” today waiting for the strength to cross it. River Grief has overflowed its banks and is threatening to wash me away. Throw me a lifeline by praying for me
Yes, there are many rivers to cross and as we stand by their banks let us take and draw courage and strength from He who crossed all rivers. Let His words continue to echo in our hearts and minds “ I have overcome”. And so shall we!
Be determined to cross your river(s) today. Trust in the strength that He provides. He stands ready to hold your hands stretch them out to Him.
