Life Under The Sun: Guidelines And Principles
Ecclesiastes 2
KJV
11+ Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.
Do you know when this truth hits us hard in the face? Old age! Yes! That’s when you take a back seat and look behind to see how far you’ve come. Some may congratulate themselves but not Uncle Solo!
You know what he saw looking back? His large auditorium was empty. The stage where music was played live was full of grass /weedy; the swimming pool where lovely girls were brought to bathe was dry! Entire sound systems that boomed loud music were silent!
Yes! Who in this state /stage will not say what you’ve read? Except a fool! Yes! Someone with 700 wives and 300 standbys sitting lonely in a corner!
He was right when he summed it all up “ futility futility, all is futility “! The things he struggled to possess, using fair or foul means to acquire all became meaningless
The bribes, corrupt practices, lies, etc that he applied to get them now stare in his face! Things he used his position and office to acquire now are meaningless to him!
How I wish many today would read the summary of life under the Sun that Solomon wrote! The lesson is this “ nothing satisfies “.
The writer saw that despite all his possessions there was a deep hole in his Heart, a yearning that material things could not provide.
Have you ever heard read at a funeral during the reading of the biography of a deceased person, his possessions, his bank account, ?
How many houses, cars, money etc he have? I haven’t and I am looking forward to hearing it.
All that I have attended and/or preached what I heard was what he/she did to others: his children/wife/family/others etc. So when you read what Solomon wrote you must understand him and why he felt disappointed
Your cars will not be mentioned, nor designer shoes or dresses, handbags, jewellery, number of Brazilian hairs you have etc none of these items will be read to us at your funeral, so continue to spend on yourself and be greedy!
For you to profit under the Sun, to succeed where Solomon failed you should do and act like this ; attend to the needs of others. Share with others what you’ve been blessed with.
Do not say it’s little; if you have little and yet you can share then when you have greater you’ll have no difficulty!
Life, if lived for others has meaning; it is when it is lived for self that it becomes meaningless! As Solomon felt
A word to the wise
