“It Is Finished” Sè Asà?
John 19
KJV
30+ When Jesus, therefore, had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Recently, I attended a funeral, and as I filed past the coffin, I paused for a moment to reflect. Knowing what the deceased experienced while alive, these thoughts that you are about to read flowed through my mind.
“Man of sorrows what a name for the Son of God, —-lifted up was He to die it is finished was his cry, now in heaven exalted high, hallelujah what a Saviour”.
These are words you and I are familiar with, but do they ring a bell? Does it mean anything to us more than the fact that it is a favourite hymn we sing every day at Church?
The statement “ it is finished “ is a loaded or, as I do say, a “ pregnant “ expression, which must be delivered. ( explained, interpreted etc.)
What does Jesus mean by that last statement He made on the Cross?
As is widely known and believed, everything that has to do with our Salvation on the side of God has been completed, there is nothing left for God to do. It is finished meaning God has finished His part!
We humans can only say “it is finished” when we hear, obey and are baptised for the forgiveness of our sins and are made new in Christ Jesus! This is the first meaning of the expression “ it is finished “. That is when we are born anew into the kingdom of Christ
Several others must follow such as ; when we overcome every obstacle that the devil, through his human agents, places in our way, it is then that we can say with boldness “ it is finished” Every victory won is summed up in the words “ it is finished. “
Secondly, when we lie silent in death, as I saw before me, all labour ceased, and our fun, laughter etc are no more to be heard, then will be said “ it is finished!”
Yes, beloved it is finished because envy, jealousy, hatred, have been brought to an end by Death. What is there to be envious, jealous etc about?
Just as Judas, the High Priest, and the people bowed their heads in shame, even so shall we bow ours because we also have “betrayed and crucified many just persons!”
Yes, it is finished! Sè aśà?
A thought.
