š¤£**Have You Done It Before**?
1 Samuel 17
KJV
34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
36+ Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
Many have wondered how David could boldly come to King Saul and make such a declaration! A declaration that shocked not only Saul but the troops that were gathered. To Saul, David was underage, and showed no sign of experience!
This explains what you read; it was Davidās way of presenting his credentials. We call this a ābattlefield CVā. Iāve heard many say similar things to people who doubted them when they volunteered to do something.
To most people, including his brothers, David was making ā tuatuaā mouth mouth! The reason we lack many confident people today is that we see them as boastful braggarts!
Though Saul doubted, he said privately to himself āWell, I donāt lose anything if this young man gets killed; at least the people will see that I put someone forward to fight!ā
So to him it was to save his face from disgrace; thatās why he allowed David to go; it was a political convenience ploy. Those who care to know, this is part of what politicians do, political scapegoating.
My focus is on the subject of confidence, something not many possess, as a result of which they fall behind the line.
David demonstrated confidence and we want to know the source. The title is a question, have you done it before? It holds the clue to knowing the source of confidence!
The literal definition of confidence is this āIf youāve done it before, then you can do it againā
Confidence begins when we remember how far we have come, the trials and challenges we overcame!
As is commonly known, a big fire starts with only a small spark!
Yesterday at a church I heard the preacher give testimony about how he became a preacher. He said on one occasion a preacher was about to start the worship service; he had wanted to open with a song then he turned round to see who was behind him.
To his surprise, he was the one seated behind the preacher; he then asked him to step forward to lead! This was how he started his journey to become a public speaker.
He discharged the assignment to the admiration of all; it also made him feel that he could speak and lead. Since then he has never looked back.
David said to Saul ā
KJV
34 āā Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
He recalled the incident, and the bravery he displayed! If you can recall a victory you won, then you can do the same with the challenges you face today. This is confidence!
The problem Iāve observed regarding why many lack confidence is this, many forget how they solved a problem so when confronted with similar problems they are unable to solve them. Yes! You may be one of them.
David rehearsed his achievements and built upon them. To him it is this ā Iāve done it before so I can do it again!ā
Please pause to think about what youāve read. Look back and reflect on the many challenges that came your way and how you overcame them.
Let them inspire and serve as the source of confidence!
Confidence is not taught in a classroom but on the field /classroom of life. It comes through repetition, so learn how to recall experiences!
