Green Leaves Fall, And So Does The Dry

By John Tamakloe

Green Leaves Fall, Dry Leaves Fall

Psalms 90

KJV

12+ So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

It is a privilege and an honour I had to be born in Accra.  I grew up among the local folks, learn their language, spoke, read and write it with no difficulty I count this a blessing as I found these very helpful in my work as a public speaker.

I have said these to make the point that the above title to this article is a proverb spoken by the Gas! It has to do with the uncertainty of death, and the fact that death does not discriminate!

Death does not know whether you are old or young, married or unmarried, rich or poor, nursing mother with a baby or not, employed or unemployed etc. This is what the title means if said in the Ga dialect. Green leaves fall, and so do dried ones.

I went out today, Saturday and every public space is occupied with nothing but funeral observances. Posters in town read “What a shock” “ Gone too soon” “ Home Call” “ Call to Glory “ “ At Rest “  “ A life Well Lived “.  These have to do with the deceased.

All these point to one fact, which Moses summarized in his prayer

Psalms 90

KJV

12+ So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Teach us to number our days he said not years. Each day counts not the years.. What we do each day with our lives is important; yearly celebration is a total of what transpired each day.

If we spend each day wisely, and purposefully we shall find cause to rejoice in the yearly celebration! The greatest challenge we have faced as humans is how to “apply our hearts into wisdom”!

Foolishness, recklessness, not valuing life etc have rather gained our attention! The majority waste their days chasing and pursuing the irrelevant, majoring in the minor etc! Plotting and planning evil against others as if they will have access to the properties of the one they plot against.

The fact remains that if you harm or eliminate someone nothing of his will come to you. His knowledge, wealth, fame, wisdom, handsomeness, beauty etc will not come to you. You’ll still be the same.

Yes. Moses was right!

Psalms 90

KJV

12+ So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

To apply one’s heart to wisdom is to be thoughtful, discerning, cautious etc in every step one takes in life. Yes take risks, but let them be “ calculated risk”.  Even faith is not blind it is the assurance of things hoped for “ the evidence “ of things not seen”

Life is not about “noise making”, it is not about “ rabble rousing “ it is about intelligent thinking, planning and living! It is about walking in the principles as taught by the Word of God.

Anyone who numbers his days is like;

Psalms 1

KJV

3+ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

I rest my case. A word to the wise and discerning is enough!
