Gethsemane, A Visit

By John Tamakloe

John 18
KJV
1+ When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

2+ And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.

That Jesus loved nature, its beauty and its therapeutic values is what you’ve read. The verse says “for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples”

To do what? If not relax!

Probably what Gethsemane was to Jesus in His time that is what Kakum, Aburi etc gardens are to us today! A place of relaxation, reflection and contemplation.

I get the impression that it was a well-designed and well-kept garden with sections devoted for quiet times! A popular place

It would seem the idea of having gardens has a long history. Solomon said he had several of them ;
Ecclesiastes 2
KJV
5+ I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kind of fruits:

6 I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees:

Song of Solomon 4
KJV
16+ Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.

A Refreshing place to be!

So what is the essence of this article? To let you know that Jesus loved nature, visited and relaxed his mind and spirit! You too find time to do the same.

Here is one that will not cost you anything; take a trip to Mamfe, drive down through the forest to Tinkong, onward to Koforidua and back. You’ll be refreshed!

I patronized these routes on several occasions on my way to Kumasi and can attest.

Or drive through Shai towards Asutuare junction pause along the route to take in fresh air and enjoy the sight and breeze. I experienced these many years ago to Akosombo and can attest

Yes, identify and patronize your “Gethsemane” but do not forget your Judas knows there and will one day give you away! It happened to Jesus, it can and will happen to you. So be on guard. A word to the wise!!

Thoughts to share.
