Generational Signs To Watch: How We Got To Where We Are Today!
Proverbs 30
Kjv
11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
13+ There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
Historians have identified and taught us the causes of the decline and fall of civilisations! They’ve made us understand that it is not external forces (attacks) that bring down societies and, by extension, civilisations, but instead internal rot and decay, especially moral decadence.
What you’ve read above is a description of three types of generations, one of which lays the foundation for the other two to build upon.
In one word an Indiscipline generation; A generation that cared less for or about anything! A self-centred generation you may call it and you are right.
Read how it is described “There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness”
As stated above the first signs of how societies decay and fall are from the home, it starts from the home. A generation that shows no respect to the elderly,( father /mother) speaks and talks anyhow, a lawless generation is what you see painted by these words.
A generation that sees and regards the elderly as their co-equals. When there is a breakdown of law and order in the home it seeps into society, and gradually like a cancer works it’s way through the fabric of society only to become the norm.
It is a fact that , society’s moral value is the total of individual moralities put together! So, how the home goes so goes society!
The next stage of societal decay and collapse is brought about by a stubborn generation; one that would not take no for an answer, wise in their own eyes, thinking and understanding therefore needs no guidance!
A generation that disrespects and disregards established norms, structures and time-tested virtues that hold society together; both morally and spiritually!
Our society is at a moral crossroads, and the signs mentioned above are evident, it’s been there for all to see. In every sphere of life, we see these manifesting themselves. In the name of “ liberal democracy”, the foundations have been laid for the destruction of the moral, cultural and spiritual values that once held us together as a people
People have praised and upheld the country of Singapore as a well-disciplined society, but how they came to be that is unknown to most people! Singaporeans themselves attribute this state of affairs to their founding President Lee Kuan Yew! A strict disciplinarian par excellence!
In short, the value of leadership is what this teaches. Leadership at home, workplace, church etc are key to upholding principles and values! Lead by example is the rule.
Proverbs 22:6
NIV
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
This is a bottom-up and not top-down approach; the earlier the training in rightness is started the better and brighter the future looks. This is why we must lay emphasis on early childhood training! As the saying goes “ you can not teach an old dog a new trick”.
Also, a bent-down tree can not be straightened! If you want straighten am Igo Welenga, or sangula ( Rokafil jazz!)
Ecclesiastes 1:15
NIV
“What is crooked cannot be straightened; ——“
If you are now beginning to build a home then take note of these! Lay a strong uncompromising foundation for the next generation you have before you today. You’ll reap what you sow!
These are the Lamentations of an older man as he looks back!
