Facts To Remember: A chasing of the Wind!

Job 20

KJV

4+ Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,

5+ That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

I am sure the title of this article will bring to mind your school days, yes  In my time, a wise author recognised the need and importance of ready-made answers to students preparing for exams, so he published a book by this title. I am not sure if it is still in existence!

Around us is evidence that the glamour of wickedness is fleeting. The associated praise, adoration and admiration are but for a season! They do not last, unfortunately, this truth continues to elude many.

We are instructed to learn from history, but we have failed to do so, so we continue to repeat and pursue failed hopes and aspirations through wrong ways and means.

History has a lot to teach us. Read the following and resolve to seek wisdom from the past. To know and understand the present, we need to know the past.

Deuteronomy 4

KJV

32+ For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?

Deuteronomy 32

KJV

7+ Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.

Job 8

KJV

8+ For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:

Wicked acts such as selfishness, undermining, false representation etc, for the purposes of gaining a material advantage surely bring joy and happiness; unfortunately only for a season.

May we resolve to seek that which lasts by being faithful and truthful to each other and any role we are assigned. Little with peace is more to be preferred than abundance with sorrow.

Proverbs 15:16-17

NIV

Better a little with the fear of the LORD than great wealth with turmoil. [17] Better a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred.

Proverbs 16:8

NIV

Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice.
