Genesis 13
KJV
10+ And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
A few reading the heading to this article will recall it is the title of a popular song sang by the late legendary “soul icon “ Wilson Pickett; in our time we had singers whose songs meant a lot their words were full of wisdom.
Wilson Pickett visited Ghana in the company of the Jackson Five ( Michael Jackson and his brothers), Staple Singers, and several other top-flight soul groups, If my memory serves me right I think Ike and Tina Turner were part to entertain Ghanaians at the Independence Square. It was a night to remember!
The program was arranged such that Wilson Pickett was to appear on stage exactly at midnight; which he did wearing a black slack with silver buttons that flashed dazzlingly. Guess what, he came on stage as the hour struck midnight with his evergreen song “ Midnight Hour!“
The crowd yelled and surged forward as he spoke the first words of the song “ Am gonna wait till the midnight hour”. And he did! It was a scene best seen/experienced rather than told/described. That was Ghana then!
Beloved, the mistakes many have made ( and are still making) in life can be attributed to the exercise of poor judgment. Like Lot, many have allowed the “ green grass “to fool them. As the scriptures said,
“And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where,”. Lot was undiscerning! He did what is described today as “ failure to read between the lines”.
Oh, how many an undiscerning youth have lifted their eyes and beheld all the fake, pretentious lives of glamour that celebrities portray on tv and other social media handles , and thought they are real. Only to be disappointed with the passage of time.
Yes, do not let the fake green grass fool you. In use in Ghana today is an imitated synthetic made “green grass” used mostly to decorate event grounds.
For a natural “green grass” to last long and not die/dry easily the soil must be well prepared, which activity takes time. It also requires regular maintenance . Beloved, for a success to last long, it would require a deliberate, conscious effort and preparation . One must be willing to invest, work hard and wait patiently.
There are many today who are in life’s scrap yard , gnashing their teeth because they were fooled by the “ green grass” !
Scripture is true, read a few ;
Proverbs 13
KJV
11+ Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
Proverbs 20
KJV
21+ An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.
Proverbs 28
KJV
20+ A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.
Proverbs 28
KJV
22+ He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.
The grass is not green everywhere, therefore be discerning ! Like , Lot don’t let the green grass fool you.
