Detergents; Have You Noticed?
Hebrews 9
KJV
22+ And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Hebrews 13
KJV
12+ Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
1 John 1
KJV
7+ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Revelation 1
KJV
5+ And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
The verses you’ve read had one theme running through “ the blood of Jesus !”
I was compelled to relook at the subject regarding the blood of Jesus when I tried washing a stained shirt. I have tried using a detergent I bought but it did not have the desired effect.
So I tried another and lo it worked! Beloved I’ve been under the wrong illusion that laundry material producers in their bid to sell to us put out various detergents!
To me all detergents are the same, so I’ve always purchased one brand until this “ stubborn stain” proved me wrong. I bought a different brand and it worked.
Beloved not every stain can be washed /removed by just any detergent, some can most can not!
While pondering over these the words of a hymn struck me” What can wash away my sin?” I rushed to open it so I could see what the writer said! Read it
“What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus”
My experience with the washing powder as mentioned above made me believe wholeheartedly what the hymn writer expressed!
Beloved there are several brands of detergents around but not every type can wash every stain. Remember stains are in degrees of light, mild, deep etc. In like manner, sin is a deep stain! Not every “deed” can cleanse it.
Many think good works can cleanse sin, benevolence can cleanse sin, and living a good moral life without coming to Christ can cleanse sin. No!
Sin’s stain is such that only a powerful “detergent” can remove it. And this is what the Blood of Jesus does to anyone who comes to Him.
Beloved, dip or soak your sin-stained life in the blood of Jesus. The Blood is the only remedy for this stain, Nothing else can remove it.
Have you not washed a shirt but still have the stain in it? Yes, it is because you used the wrong detergent. Such is a sin-stained life that has not touched the blood of Jesus!
Hear how the hymn writer expresses his experience ;
“Nothing can for sin atone:
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Naught of good that I have done:
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”
Read his conclusion;
“This is all my hope and peace:
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
This is all my righteousness:
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”
(Robert Lowry, 1876)
Yes, just like how not every stain can be removed by any washing powder, except one made specifically for that type of stain the same is true in the spiritual realm.
To be clothed in white and walk with God, one must first be washed, sin- sin-stained life must be washed with the spiritual detergent- the blood of Jesus!
Let me conclude with the question asked by another hymn-writer ;
“Have you been to Jesus
for the cleansing pow’r?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?”
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;
There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,
O be washed in the blood of the Lamb.
(Elisha Hoffman (1839-1929)
Beloved, as I stood by the washing- machine, looking at my deeply stained shirt which had been nicely washed by the new detergent I bought; these were the profound lessons I learnt and wish to share with you
The blood of Jesus is the only potent antidote to any “sin-stained life.” Dip your life in it today, if you haven’t!
Maranatha.
