Change Lesson Please!

(Written/posted 12th February 2020)

2 Corinthians 5

KJV

17+ Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Oh, how I miss the cry of the Bell boy at school who rings the bell and shouts the words “ change lesson please!”  The post of school bell boy was in our school days enviable. I contested once but lost!

The way the girls admire you ( just bell boyoo!) and the style with which you shout the announcements, the show you make with the khaki khaki uniform ( up and down) well starched and ironed with a small hankie dangling from your back pocket! Oh oh oh. Hum! Time O time how I wished you would never move forward!

Anyway, we changed the lesson as soon as we heard the bell. We took another book and new topics were taught new ideas were learned eventually we passed out with flying colors.

Let’s turn our attention to the life we lead as Christians, we are expected to “change lessons” the very moment we were baptized but unfortunately, this is not the case with many.

In Jerusalem ( AD 33) after Peter and the rest proclaimed the Gospel message the audience asked;

Acts 2

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men, and brethren, what shall we do?

Peter’s answer to them was simple “Change lesson please !” Reas how he said it,

Acts 2

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Today all we do as preachers can be summed up in the words of the School Bell Boy “Change lesson please !”  We are calling all men to change their lessons, both believers and unbelievers.

Here is how Paul also put in one such call to change the lesson!

Colossians 3:5-10 NIV

[5] Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry.

[6] Because of these, the wrath of God  [7] You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.

[8] But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

[9] Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices

[10] and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Many are still not heeding the Bell Boy’s call to “ change lesson”. Be the new creature you are supposed to be.

Beloved, It is time to change from the following lessons, envy, jealousy, wrath, lies, malice, greed, selfishness, hypocrisy

Take your new book and write the following new life lessons. Joy, peace, long-suffering, brotherly love and kindness, truth, gratitude, etc.

It is time to “change lessons, please! “

Many have been promoted to upper classes ( age, statuses, duration in the church)  but are still clinging on to the old lesson notes from the primary department!

Brother/Sister Change lesson please!

Remember your old school days let the bell ring in your ears again.

Be reminded that you are in a new school with new syllabi ( a Christian and not a worldly one) so put off to put on a new outlook. Change your old clothing and put on a new one.!

Change the lesson, please!

May God help us as we strive to “change lesson please! “

My thoughts went to my school days and I remembered the bell boy how he shouts “Change lesson please !” Then I looked at how spiritually this is true to our living the Christian life! If the cap fits, please wear it.
