Celebrating Lifelong Fellowship With God

Celebrating Lifelong Fellowship With God

Psalms 84

KJV

10+ For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

This is a well-thought-out out memorable summary statement defining the psalmist’s commitment in life. He wrote this in the latter part of his life.

How do I know he wrote in the latter part of his life? Read the verse that followed;

11+ For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

These are words of experience, that only someone who has walked with God can say! They are words recommending to us how good and wise it is to spend time in fellowship with God.

The writer in his early days stated his commitment to fellowship with God in these words;

Psalms 27

KJV

4+ One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.

Recently I visited a congregation and was glad to meet some elderly people! These have been in the church since the beginning of that congregation. They began with dark hair but when I saw them their hair had greyed!

I paused and gave each of them an embrace! , the scene brought tears of joy to our eyes, as we each recalled the days gone by. We shared memories of togetherness!

May we learn to celebrate these men and women, before they pass on to their rewards in Heaven! Great examples, encouragement and inspirations they are to us. May we not ignore them!

A Yearly appreciation program dubbed “A Day for the Elderly” wouldn't be bad! How about that!

How many Sunday fellowships with the saints have you missed since you gave your life to Christ? Can you remember?

May we also make this choice and decision of the psalmist our prayer ;

“One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,”

Beloved, begin with dark hair and end with grey one. Remain steadfast and be inspired by the faith of the older generation in your church. Let their grey hair challenge you.

My take on walking with God throughout our lives! I dedicate this article to the aged in our churches.
