Best Before!

By John Tamakloe

Best Before

Ecclesiastes 12

KJV

1+ Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

Lamentations 3

KJV

27+ It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

Ecclesiastes 11

KJV

8+ But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.

2 Samuel 19

KJV

35+ I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?

On every product displayed in shops you’ll find written on the pack the above  “ best before “! This indicates the useful period of the product!

Beloved, the above scriptures can be summed up in these words “. Best before “; every man has his/her best time. A time /period that he/she is at his/her peak. Productive years some call it. Solomon reminded us of the same when he wrote;

Ecclesiastes 9

KJV

10+ Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

We are products that have expiry dates. A time will come when our strength will decline and our desires, interests, etc., will also fall. The wise of old knew this and lived with these in mind. A time will come when you must “disengage” as stated in the following verse; take note!

2 Samuel 19:35

NIV

I am now eighty years old. Can I tell the difference between what is enjoyable and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats and drinks? Can I still hear the voices of male and female singers? Why should your servant be an added burden to my lord the king?

So, beloved know your “ best before” time, do whatever is possible and enjoy yourself within that period! After such time you’ll not be able to eat even a ball of Kenkey.

Heed Solomon’s admonishment;

Ecclesiastes 9

KJV

10+ Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

A thought and a reminder!
