Becoming What We See: A Christlike Template
2 Corinthians 3
KJV
18+ But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Scripture confirms that we eventually become images of what we often see. Several examples abound in life as we see look-alikes. We also see these in professions, homes, and even in churches.
We become who we follow, as we step in, and walk in their footsteps consciously or unconsciously. I remember receiving a WhatsApp message from a relative telling me about someone she met who speaks and acts like me, and wanted to know if the person has been associated with me.
The above scriptures make a similar case for believers as they behold the glory of God! As we read, hear, and meditate daily on the Word of God we experience transformations; we are changed to look like Him in character! We end up exhibiting godly character.
We become Christlike in word and deed as we stay closer to Him through His Word. His words influence our thoughts which translates into deeds. Remember, to walk with Jesus is simply to walk /live by what He taught.
This is how observers will know if we are truly His followers.
Beloved how close we are to the Word is seen through how we do things! How we love, how we live, what fellowship we enjoy, what causes we support, what truths we uphold, where our loyalty lies etc.
A question that should engage our thoughts is, as men watch us what conclusions will they arrive at? Do we look like Him in love? Do we look like Him by how we relate to each other? Etc.
It is these that should engage our attention the most, as we make our claim to the world that we are His followers.
Yes, Paul was right when he wrote;
2 Corinthians 3:18
NIV
[18] And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
May our Christlike lives be a template for others to emulate. May the Holy Spirit empower us as we strive every day to look like Jesus!
