To be economical does not mean to be untruthful as some have interpreted the expression  and practice , rather it is simply to be selective.\u003C/p>\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>As seen from the passage above the apostle John was being economical with historical events. He was selective with a purpose, \u003Cstrong>the purpose he gave as ;\u003C/strong>\u003Cbr>John 20:31 \u003Cbr>NIV\u003Cbr>\u003Cstrong>But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.\u003C/strong>\u003C/p>\u003Cp> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>To be economical one must first define/determine the purpose,  for which he writes or speaks. Seasoned public speakers/writers know and apply this rule any time they are invited to speak !\u003C/p>\u003Cp>Another is to consider the audience , it’s composition. \u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>To be economical means not everything needed to be said, the elderly say “ you swallow some”. . It’s similar to  the caution the proverbs writer gave ;\u003C/p>\u003Cp>Proverbs 21\u003Cbr>KJV\u003Cbr>23+ Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.\u003C/p>\u003Cp> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>Proverbs 13\u003Cbr>KJV\u003Cbr>3+ He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.\u003Cbr>( NB. “ he that openeth *wide* his lips !)\u003C/p>\u003Cp> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>Have you ever sat through a lecture, sermon etc and found it boring , substandard, wordy , lacking in substance etc. ? Yes, this is because the speaker /presenter failed to apply the rules of being economical.\u003C/p>\u003Cp> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>You’ve heard the proverb “a word to the wise is enough, a phrase to a fool is meaningless!”  Yes that’s another way of saying be economical and discerning when you speak !  \u003Cbr> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>Wise people don’t need long or lengthy sermons etc ; because they are able to discern the truth or import of your message provided they are factual. Facts speak for themselves the sages said. Over elaboration of facts through long wordy , winding talking only weakens them !\u003C/p>\u003Cp> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>As the referenced proverb above states “ a phrase ( long wordy sentence) to a fool is meaningless “ Why? Because it’s noise and a waste !\u003C/p>\u003Cp> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>When I was a student , the first essays I presented at my tutorials were critiqued and marked negatively not because of the content but because they were too wordy. My lecturer cautioned me against it. \u003C/p>\u003Cp> \u003C/p>\u003Cp>It was there that I was taught what it means and  how to comply with directives regarding how long an essay should be. I was assigned to write a 3000 word essay every week on specific topics ! \u003Cbr>\u003Cbr>It was a great training, experience and a life long asset that has influenced my writings years later \u003C/p>\u003Cp>So, reader learn to be economical with everything!
