A Difficult But Necessary Choice

By John Tamakloe

A Difficult But Necessary Choice!

Romans 12:18

NIV

[18] If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

The complex nature of human beings among whom we walk makes obedience to this verse necessary if we must see God ! ! Provocations and vexations are many, yet we are advised to choose peace instead of quarrelling!

As we go through life this advice or caution must guide our steps. On my part, I find it very relevant and important to take this advice seriously because I don’t know when or where I’ll take my last breath.

If it should be that at the time of taking my last breath, I am at loggerheads with you and you are not around for me to seek or ask for forgiveness, then my destiny is sealed and I am doomed if God’s Word is true!

This is a worrying and frightening state which must be avoided at all costs because of the consequences that await us. It was for this reason that the Holy Spirit through Paul warned us ;

Ephesians 4:26

NIV

[26] “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,

God is not saying do not be angry, anger is an emotion and as humans we have emotions. Not everything said or done to us sits well. Some go contrary to our nature, our likes or dislikes which provoke us and make us angry.

This is why the Holy Spirit grants us as it were, the right to be angry. But He cautions against prolonging this state of anger. The sun must not go down on it, in other words before the close of day let it go!

The Holy Spirit also said through the Hebrew writer; that our failure to seek peace and live peaceably with all men shall cost us our desire and cherish reason of becoming a Christian; which is to see God.

Hebrews 12

KJV

14+ Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Beloved do not leave this world knowing full well you have an  “outstanding debt” to settle. Make sure you put your life in order before you leave, or else what you never wished for will be your reward.
